Google making us stupid? Now that's just stupid!

I think that to say that Google is what is making us stupid is stupid in itself. I believe that every tool that we use, its outcome is determined by us and how we use it. If you use Google, and just click on the first link and only use that, then yes, you are stupid. But if you use Google as a resource, as a tool, as a means of finding out more, than it is an incredible and useful tool. I think that all of this ties back to the fundamentals of whether or not ANY technology makes us stupid. In reality, nothing can make you stupid unless you let it. In the case of Google, people miss use it. In class we talked about how now people cannot read maps, or use a compass, they must have their GPS or they are lost. This to me is just a further example of how people let technology make them stupid. If we realize what we are using the tool for, and realize that there are other ways, then we are accepting the fact that we may be taking the easy way out.
